As I write this, I'm watching a documentary on the plague. My degree is in infectious diseases, so this warms my nerdy little heart. I'm trying to figure out if I can rent the show for my micro students to watch. I think they'd enjoy it, and it would be a good way to keep them busy while I'm out of town in October, attending the Surrey International Writers' Conference. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

DeleteIn medieval times, the miasmatic theory of disease was popular, which essentially held that bad air and foul odors were responsible for disease. The doctors would dress in long robes and stuff herbs and other sweet-smelling stuff into the cone of the mask to prevent the 'bad air' from reaching them.

DeleteI've seen that same documentary, must be exciting to understand all the details. I find it very frightening, but students love that sort of thing. Just make sure they have to write a paper on it too! :) just kidding.

DeleteThat's awesome! I'm envious of your degree, though I don't know if I'd have the guts to study all that for real. I've always had a thing for infectious diseases and I love all those history channel specials on the plague- I've seen many of them and they always lead me to start madly typing in search engines whilst watching. Nerd it up!
