Tales from the marriage bed...

The other night Mister and I crawled into bed, books in hand, to settle in for a bit of reading before going to sleep.  I had just gotten myself situated when he started to scratch his arm.  Like, really scratch.  Being a good wife, I asked if he was okay.

Mister: Yeah.  I just have these bumps on my arm.  I think they're spider bites.

Me: When did you get bitten by a spider?

Mister: Well, I woke up with them this morning, so I guess sometime last night.

Me: That would mean you were bitten while in bed.

Mister: I guess so.

Me:

Mister: I'm sure it's fine.

Me: I'm sure it's not.

Mister: Well, what do you suggest we do?

Me:

Mister: Don't you think you're overreacting a bit?

Me: No.  No I don't.

Who's with me on this?

  1. I'm with you. Flamethrowers, napalm, a gallon of Raid - and a new place to live.

    Yikes!

    1. So far, I've seen no evidence of 'friends' in the bed. Keep your fingers crossed it stays that way! :)

  2. LOL

They might not be spider bites. They could be bed bugs. We got them after 16 years in the same home (and with buying new mattresses from a nice showroom every time). All it takes is for one to hitch a ride home on someone's bag or clothing.

They have an anesthetic in their saliva. You don't feel the bite. They usually come out in the wee hours of the morning, bite you, then hide again. Flip your box springs over.

And burning the bed won't help. They can hide in the walls.
Call the exterminator and brace your checkbook. $$$$

    1. Yuck! Fortunately, his bites don't look like that, and our mattress appears to be clear. I hope this was just a fluke!

  3. LOL!! That was awesome. Spiders don't typically bite people while sleeping, and you totally want them around to get rid of the more troublesome bugs, so I say relax. That, or hire an exterminator. We retain one on call. (Otherwise there's no way I could stomach living in Florida.)

    1. Very true--I like spiders, just as long as they respect my personal space :)

  4. Totally with you on this!

Our cats brought in fleas once. I tore apart and disinfected every inch of our bed (And our whole house) daily for a month. Our house had never been so clean, not even when it was new. But it got rid of the problem. Now our cats stay inside.

    1. I remember one of the cats had fleas when I was a kid. They were almost impossible to get rid of!

  5. ME! Our dearly departed Yorkie brought ticks to our bed once. With all the bedbugs around now, it only makes sense.

    1. Oh man, ticks can be really hard to see, especially before they've fed. (shudder)

  6. But you have cats! I like their bug-handling services :-)
I don't want to *see* spiders in my bed but they do eat all the other bugs (which there better not be a lot of!), plus, you know... Charlotte!
