Photo Friday - Traveling edition

If you follow me on Facebook, you already know that earlier this week, I flew to Canada for the Surrey International Writers Conference.  This is one of my favorite conferences, and it's always one of the highlights of my year!

Not only am I having a great time at the conference, but I really enjoyed the trip up here, as I was able to spend the entire flight reading.  I don't have as much free time as I'd like these days, which means I don't get to devote several hours at a time to reading.  A plane ride, however, seems tailor-made for a reading marathon, and is often one of my favorite parts of traveling as it gives me a chance to make a dent (however small) in Mount TBR.

One of the many foothills of Mount TBR...

What do you enjoy most about traveling?

  1. Whoa. That is a serious TBR pile. Hope you get more time to winnow it!

    1. I'm afraid one plane ride isn't going to cut it, but at least it's a start! :)

  2. There is nothing to do but read and relax on a plane. Unless you are sitting next to someone with a colicky baby, then it's not good times. I saw your Canadian Mexican food picture on FB today. Yummy. Have fun.

    1. Thanks, Nana! That was a nice meal, once I got over the jarring juxtaposition of Mexican food with french fries :)

  3. ...folding my hands, sitting back and looking out the window as the stories built by the scenery spin past...

Have a wonderful weekend! (When may we expect the post...?)

    1. Hi Diana,

I'll try to get my conference posts up next week, after I get home and sleep for a bit! :)

  4. Is that all in your tbr? I used to spend 75% traveling in my job. I loved flights, buses, and trains for that very reason.

    1. Oh, no, Jo--I wish that was all of my TBR. I'm afraid I have several more bookshelves full to bursting with books waiting to be read!

  5. Yes! One of the best things about traveling (as long as your're not driving, anyway) is catching up on all that TBR stuff.

    1. Absolutely! Works really well, as long as my traveling companions don't get offended when I disappear into a book! Some people actually want to _talk_, can you believe that?! :)

  6. While I should probably read on planes, I have mostly written. However, I'm now in the middle of seven novels, and I think I just added an eighth to that...I REALLY need to finish all of those books.

  7. I enjoy seeing new places, meeting people and eating in traditional restaurants. The only thing I don't enjoy at all is flying. Odd for a dragon, but it is not the same a dragon flight than flying inside an airplane.

    1. I imagine airplanes are too cramped for dragons :)

  9. Have a great time at your conference, I need to go to another one, and this time with a writer or two, not hubby! LOL

    1. Heck yeah--hubbies are fine to travel with, but if they're not writers, they just get bored at these things.

  10. I used to fly between the US and Egypt - you can finish 2 books when you have 16 hours to read. lol I had a layover in Istanbul and that's the best airport ever! It's like a mall with lots of stores and different places to eat.

  11. I used to love reading on planes. Now my motion sickness is so bad I can't read, writ, or even play on my phone while traveling. I've ben building up my audiobook collection because that is all that's left to me while traveling.

So jealous about Surrey, I'll get there some year.

    1. I'd go nuts if I couldn't read on a plane. I hope the audiobooks work for you! And yes, I'll see you at Surrey some year! :)

  12. Ooh, a shelf! I need one of those for my TBR pile! It's beside the bed and someday it's going to topple on me while I'm sleeping...

    1. Shelves are great, but be warned: once you have more space, you will fill it up with books. I'm pretty sure that's a law of physics...
