Fun at camp!

So this happened today...
This is the second time I've 'won' a NaNo event.  I participate every year, and I always consider it a success because I make good progress on my manuscript.  Still, it's nice to actually win, you know? :)

Tales from the marriage bed...

The other night Mister and I crawled into bed, books in hand, to settle in for a bit of reading before going to sleep.  I had just gotten myself situated when he started to scratch his arm.  Like, really scratch.  Being a good wife, I asked if he was okay.

Mister: Yeah.  I just have these bumps on my arm.  I think they're spider bites.

Me: When did you get bitten by a spider?

Mister: Well, I woke up with them this morning, so I guess sometime last night.

Me: That would mean you were bitten while in bed.

Mister: I guess so.

Me:

Mister: I'm sure it's fine.

Me: I'm sure it's not.

Mister: Well, what do you suggest we do?

Me:

Mister: Don't you think you're overreacting a bit?

Me: No.  No I don't.

Who's with me on this?

Celebrate the Small Things - Conference Edition

The Alamo is so pretty at night!
This week, I'm celebrating the RWA conference!  It's a busy time here in San Antonio, with over 2000 attendees and conference events stretching over 2 hotels.  We've basically taken over the city :)

I'm having a great time, but I will admit to being a little tired :)

What are you celebrating this week?

If you've been reading my blog, you know that Fridays are reserved for a post where I celebrate the little things that have happened during the week. This is a blog hop hosted by VikLit, and it's one of my favorite blogging things to do.  I encourage you to check out her blog and the full list of participants, because who doesn't love reading about good things?

RWA Roving Reporter!

I have a doppelgänger!  Well, sort of.  She does kind of look like me, in as much as a Lego figure can look like anyone.  But I'm quite pleased with the resemblance :)

As soon as I found out Lego was making a female scientist figure, I knew I had to have one.  Lucky for me, an Etsy shop makes jewelry out of them.  I elected to go with the pin, so I can wear her on my RWA name badge.  I'm still working on a name (suggestions, anyone?), but she's going to accompany me to the RWA National conference in a few weeks.  Look for blog posts and updates, and if you'll be at the conference, be sure to find me so you can get your picture taken with her!

LETHAL LIES back cover copy!

I'm excited to share the back cover copy of LETHAL LIES, which is coming out this December!  Take a look:

Trusting the man she loves could cost her her life

Putting her faith in someone who lies for a living isn't the safest thing Dr. Jillian Mahoney has ever done. But to stay alive, she has to believe the undercover agent—who's kidnapped her to prove his innocence—isn't a traitor to the FBI. And to help him, she must deny their intense attraction as they run from two vengeful killers.

Her captor, Alex Malcom, has lived a life of lies—some worse than others. Still, there's one truth he's reluctant to disclose to Jillian, the woman of his dreams. One that could stop their relationship cold.

Celebrate the Small Things - Dog days of summer edition

Another week down, another chance to celebrate!

My friend Angi Morgan and I have settled into a pattern of sorts during these hot summer months. Every Friday, we get together and spend the day writing.  It's always nice to spend time with her, and I'm also quite happy to get more words on the page.  An added bonus for me is that when I go over to her house, I get to see her dogs!  I get all the fun of hanging out with dogs without any of that pesky maintenance :)

Celebrate the Small Things - 4th of July edition!

It's the 4th of July!  For a lot of people, that means fireworks, family and friends, and BBQ.  Whatever you're doing, I wish you a happy and safe holiday!

This week, I'm celebrating the fact that Mister had a successful surgery yesterday.  He had a very large kidney stone that had to be removed, and fortunately the procedure went well.  He has to stay in the hospital until Saturday, but I'm just glad the stone is out and he can start feeling better. I'm especially glad the surgery was so early in July, as we are leaving for our honeymoon trip in early August.  Hopefully, he will be fully recovered and back to normal in time for our trip!

I don't think it's fair that his legs look better in hose than mine!

IWSG - July edition

It's that time again!  Check out the IWSG website to sign up and join us as we talk about our insecurities and encourage each other to continue moving forward.

Where has the year gone?  I can't be the only one who feels like time is slipping through my fingers.  I'm trying my best to keep my head above water, but between my job, my writing, and everything else, I'm not getting as much done as I'd like.  Fortunately, my summer term wraps up in a couple of days, which will free up my schedule significantly.  I just need to take advantage of the extra time.

One of the things I've noticed is that no matter how empty my days look on paper, they manage to fill up with miscellany that keep me from meeting my writing goals.  My challenge for the rest of the summer is to make writing a priority, so that I can go back to work in the fall with a finished book.

It's not going to be easy, and I know my problem isn't unique.  So I've done something to push myself to work hard.  I've signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo, and my goal is to write 30,000 words in July.  That's a little under 1000 words per day.  I know there are prolific authors out there who probably scoff at my meager goal, but it works for me.

Do you have any tricks or tips to keep going when life gets in the way? Are any of you signed up for Camp NaNo?
