Celebrate the Small Things - Snow Days!

www.123rf.com
I live in Texas, which means we tend to experience pretty mild winters compared to the rest of the country (I'm looking at you, Boston!).  Therefore, when we do get wintry weather it's a novelty rather than a nuisance. Like this week--we had some ice and sleet, topped off with a little bit of snow, which resulted in two snow days from work!  It was awesome--I got so much writing done :) There's more snow in the forecast for today, but I don't think we'll see any more closures.  At any rate, I enjoyed getting to work in my pajamas for a couple of days.  It was a nice warm-up for spring break.

What have you been up to this week?  What's your weather like?

If you've been reading my blog, you know that Fridays are reserved for a post where I celebrate the little things that have happened during the week. This is a blog hop created by Vikki and now hosted by Lexa Cain, and it's one of my favorite blogging things to do.  I encourage you to check out her blog and the full list of participants, because who doesn't love reading about good things?

Celebrate the Small Things - Treading water edition

So much to do, so little time!  I know I'm not alone in feeling this way.  This is one of those weeks where the work is piling up, so for now, I'm thankful that I have managed to keep my head above water. I hope I can start to whittle away at the to-do pile in the next few days and get things back to a more manageable level.

In the meantime, I hope you all have a great weekend!  It's supposed to get really cold here on Sunday (really cold for Texas, that is), so I'm looking forward to bundling up and staying inside.  My heart goes out to the people who are snowed in, but just think--in a few short months, you'll be laughing at our 100+ summer temperatures!

Celebrate the Small Things - Birthday edition

Hi gang!  First of all, many thanks for the prayers, positive thoughts, and well-wishes for my friend.  I'm happy to say that she is showing signs of gradual improvement, which is a good thing.  She's not out of the woods yet, but I'm optimistic!

This week, I'm celebrating Mister's birthday. Technically, his birthday isn't until Monday, but we are going out to dinner with family on Saturday night so I'm counting the celebration this week.  He wanted to have a nice steak, so we picked out a local steakhouse and made reservations. Hopefully the food will live up to his expectations!

Keep your fingers crossed I can get a lot of writing done this weekend--my next deadline got moved up a couple of weeks, so I really need to buckle down.  I hate panicking at the last minute, so I try to set a steady pace for myself to avoid procrastinating.  I just have to overcome the activation energy barrier (science nerd reference!) to sitting down and getting started--once I do though, I think things will go well.

What are you celebrating this weekend?  Any big plans for Valentine's Day? Please share!

Celebrate the Small Things - Health edition

This is a strange post to write.  I learned this week that a close friend is in the hospital with a condition called autoimmune hemolytic anemia--basically, her own immune system is attacking and destroying her red blood cells.  She has already had several blood transfusions and requires more in order to stay alive.  Unfortunately, I can't donate blood right now--Baby Munchkin needs all of it to finish cooking properly.  But if you're able, I hope you will consider donating blood at your local collection spot--it only takes a few minutes, and you really can save a life!
This situation has reminded me to be thankful for my own health, and the health of my family.  It's something we take for granted every day, and events like this really serve to remind us that our health is precious and could be gone in an instant.

I hope you all had a good week, and that you enjoy your weekend!  Take a moment to hug your loved ones!

Weekend plans?

I won't be signing with a quill, but you get the idea!
What are you up to this weekend?  If you're in the DFW area on Saturday, why not stop by the Plano Barnes & Noble and grab a few signed books?  I'll be there, along with authors Angi Morgan and Lauren Canan.  Here's the link for more information!

If you can't make it to the store but still want signed books, check out the link and contact the store to order your copy!

A new addition...

Let's give a big, warm welcome to the latest addition to our fish population--Stripey!

Stripey is a Striped Raphael Catfish, and he (she?) looks like these guys:

One Fish and Two Fish (aka the goldfish) seem unfazed by their new tank-mate, which is good.  I'm all about peaceful coexistence in the fish community. :)

Toby is thrilled with the latest addition.  He's been glued to the fish tank since we brought Stripey home.

The things we do for our pets, right? :)
